Crappie Derby Update – Day 10 – April 22

Day 10 was a busy and exciting day for the Derby.  This morning, Jeff Howard, from Sterrett, Alabama caught last year’s $10,000 fish in the Roland Cooper State Park slough.  Unfortunately this year the fish was valued at only $50 as it was a prior year tagged fish.  Chamber President Hunter Hines authorized an increase in the payout to $100.

Next came the call from Joe Lister that he too had a double tagged fish.  His fish was confirmed to the be the $25,000 fish in this year’s Derby!  The 2.25 lb. crappie was caught on a jig in Mill  Creek.  Joe is from Flomaton, Alabama.  See the separate update on this website for more information on this fish.

Later in the afternoon Marvin Sheffield of Camden caught the 11th tagged fish of the Derby and collected $100 for his catch.

The other Big Money fish remain in the lake including the $10,000 fish and the three $5,000 fish.  The 15th tagged fish will be worth $750 and we expect to write that check very soon.
