The Wilcox County Industrial Development Authority was organized in 2003 as a tax-exempt public authority under Section 11-92A-12, Code of Alabama, 1975. The Authority evolved from the Wilcox Development Council which directed both industrial development and tourism activities.
The Authority was formed to concentrate on industrial and economic development in order to create jobs for Wilcox County. The Wilcox County Industrial Development Authority is governed by a board of directors representing the Wilcox County Commission, Camden, Pine Hill, Pine Apple, Oak Hill, and Yellow Bluff (the five incorporated municipalities in Wilcox County), the Director of the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce and at-large members elected from the business community. In 2006, the Authority employed George Alford, Jr. to manage its operation and lead its economic development efforts.
