SUMMARY:Wilcox Historical Society Spring Tour of Homes
DESCRIPTION:Join us March 25th\, 2017 for a tour  of the areas most loved antebellum homes. This year’s theme is “A Tour of the River’s Bend” as we open up homes in Canton Bend\, Possum Bend\, Sedan\, and Camden. Tour begins at 10:00 but tickets will be sold beginning at 8:00am at Gee’s Bend Ferry Terminal and 9:00am at Black Belt Treasures. \nThe tour includes the following: DryFork\, Liberty Hall\, White Columns\, Yaupon\, and The Beck-Bryant-Talbot Home. We will also have Canton Bend Church\, Wilcox Female Institute\, and The Dale Masonic Lodge open for the tour.  Quilts created by local artists will be available to view at The Wilcox Female Institute as well.\nLive portrayal of Alabama’s 39th Governor\, Benjamin Meek Miller  will be performed at The Miller-Bonner-Law Office. \nLunches will be available for purchase at The Wilcox Female Institute by Blue Spoon Catering\, and The Masonic Lodge will also be serving BBQ plates. DESCRIPTION:Coming up in Camden on February 23rd\, 24th\, & 25th. AHA had their meet in Camden last year and it was such a success they are coming back and have invited the NAFA to join them at this years meet. Local AHA members and active falconers\, Michael Moore and John Brunson are the go to guys for this event. Michael told me this morning that he is expecting over 100 falconers with 40 plus birds to attend. \nThe headquarters this year will be “The Shed” in Camden. Located at the intersection of Hwy 10/28\, 5 miles east of Camden. They will hunt Thursday then have a Meet & Greet at The Shed. The falconers will have their birds on display and answer any question the public might have about the sport. \nAfter the Friday hunt\, Lauren McGough will speak on Eagle Falconry and The Falconry fund Project. Jeff Fincher will also speak on Red-tail Hawking and his recent trip to Africa. Chili will also be served on Friday. \nAfter morning hunt Saturday\, pizza lunch at The Shed\, afternoon hunt\, there will be the Annual Banquet/Raffle. SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health First Aid for Wilcox County
DESCRIPTION:The West Central Alabama Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will be hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid training in Camden\, AL on Wednesday\, April 6th\, 2016 at the Wilcox Chamber of Commerce (1001 Earl Hilliard Road\, Camden\, AL 36726) from 8 A.M. – 5 P.M.  AHEC will train members of the public to improve mental health literacy – helping them identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness in youth. This training is open to all who are interested. \n  \nMental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training certification course which teaches participants a five-step action plan to assess a situation\, select and implement interventions and secure appropriate care for a young person. This certification program introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems\, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments. \n  \nUpon completion of the Youth Mental Health First Aid training\, participants will receive Youth Mental Health First Aid certifications through the National Council for Behavioral Health. The Deep South Center for OH&S is an approved provider of continuing education units for nurses by the AL Board of Nursing (Provider ABNP0420 Expiration Date 01/03/2019) and has awarded this program 8.0 contact hours. SUMMARY:Pine Hill Depot Day
DESCRIPTION:Pine Hill’s annual Depot Day  at the Depot Museum. Originally built in 1905 at a cost of $2089\, the depot was the center of activity in Pine Hill as businesses and travel was dependent on the railroad. The depot served us well until 1989\, when it was no longer in use and Norfolk Southern made the depot and a caboose available to the Town of Pine Hill. In 1989\, the depot and caboose were moved to their present location\, and in 1997\, the Town of Pine Hill received an ISTEA Grant administered by the Alabama Dept. of Transportation in $105\,000 for the renovation\, which was completed in 1999. \nEntertainment by Local Artists\, Bake Sale\, Arts & Crafts\, Children’s Activities\, Door Prizes\nVisit the Historic Depot Museum\, Antiques & Classic Cars\, BBQ by Pine Hill Volunteer Fire Dept.\, Food Vendors and Much More!

DESCRIPTION:Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center (BBTCAC)                     \nSeptember 13: Annual Patchwork Festival Center of Quilt Filled Weekend \nCamden\, Alabama– Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center (BBTCAC) will host its annual Patchwork Festival on Saturday\, September 13th\, from 10am to 3pm\, in conjunction with Wilcox ArtWorks’ 2nd Annual Patchwork Quilt Walk\, and more (additional events to be announced soon). \nThroughout the day\, demonstrations will be given by Black Belt area quilters\, fiber artists\, potters\, painters\, and other talented artist and craftsmen. BBTCAC artists and volunteers will be hosting one of the most popular features of the day – quilt inspired art activities for youth of all ages. \nActivities and demonstrations by artists will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 3:00 p.m. at BBTCAC located at 209 Claiborne Street in historic downtown Camden. Delicious lunches will be available onsite through Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce. The 2014 Patchwork Festival is made possible by the generous support of Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission\, the Alabama State Council on the Arts\, the Black Belt Community Foundation\, the Daniel Foundation of Alabama\, and contributions from members of the Black Belt Treasures Guild. \nWilcox ArtWorks and BBTCAC are coordinating the 2nd Annual Patchwork Quilt Walk. Historic and Contemporary Quilts will be on display at various churches and businesses around Camden. Tickets are available through any Wilcox ArtWorks member or at BBTCAC.
