DESCRIPTION:MONROEVILLE\, JUNE 29\, 2015 – The Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce invites all of our members to join in a celebration for the release of Harper Lee’s Go Set A Watchman on Tuesday\, July 14th. The Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce is planning an all day Open House\, and encourages the business community to join in with its own welcoming plans for area residents and guests in celebration of the publication of Watchman. At the chamber office\, teacakes and lemonade will be served\, while 1950’s music plays in the background. \nAccording to publisher Harper Collins\, Watchman takes place twenty years after To Kill A Mockingbird and features the older Scout\, returning to her hometown. “We want to honor Harper Lee\, our most famous citizen\, and thank her for the gift of the publication of this book\,” says Chamber of Commerce President Harvey Gaston. Gaston also plays Atticus in the local production of “To Kill A Mockingbird.” \nCopies of Go Set A Watchman are for sale at a variety of businesses in Monroeville\, for those who would like to purchase a copy in Harper Lee’s hometown. DESCRIPTION:Kevin Jones\, ADCNR – State Park Division Marketing Specialist in conjunction with Roland Cooper State Park and Wildlife & Freshwater announce the 1st Annual West Central Alabama Gator Hunt Liars Contest. Joe Dunn owner of Dunn’s Sports has volunteered to prepare a big pot of Gumbo and donate a $100 toward the prize money. The Event will be held from the Roland Cooper Pavilion from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday August 21st. \nThe contest will be open to anyone who thinks they can tell a convincing lie to a panel of 3 judges. The contest will be limited to 10 liars that will have 5 minutes to tell there lie. Each contestant will be judged on Technique\, Presentation\, Originality & Audience Response. If more than 10 enter\, a drawing will be held to pick the 10 contestants. \nDetails and rules will be available soon. Anybody who would like to volunteer are sponsor will be welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Originally built in 1905 at a cost of $2089\, the depot was the center of activity in Pine Hill as businesses and travel was dependent on the railroad. The depot served us well until 1989\, when it was no longer in use and Norfolk Southern made the depot and a caboose available to the Town of Pine Hill. In 1989\, the depot and caboose were moved to their present location\, and in 1997\, the Town of Pine Hill received an ISTEA Grant administered by the Alabama Dept. of Transportation in $105\,000 for the renovation\, which was completed in 1999. \nEntertainment by Local Artists • Bake Sale • Arts & Crafts • Children’s Activities • Door Prizes • Visit the Historic Depot Museum • Antiques & Classic Cars • BBQ by Pine Hill Volunteer Fire Department • Food Vendors and Much More! \nFree Shuttle Bus from various parking lots around town.
