SUMMARY:Wilcox Historical Society Tour of Homes
DESCRIPTION:The Wilcox Historical Society’s annual Tour of Homes will be held Saturday\, March 22\, 2025\, from 10 am—5 pm and will feature eight homes\, two churches\, and other historic sites in Camden! There will also be a private luncheon and VIP reception on Friday night\, March 21\, at Wakefield Plantation in Furman.\nWe are thrilled to announce that the Viscount and Viscountess of Hinchingbrooke\, Luke and Julie Montagu\, will be the Guest Speakers at our Tour of Homes. The Montagues will share stories of England’s great houses\, including their own home\, Mapperton\, considered the finest Manor House in England.\n\nJulie Montagu (Viscountess Hinchingbrooke) is a historian and presenter known for bringing British heritage to life. She starred in “An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Great Estates” on the Smithsonian Channel and hosts the YouTube series American Viscountess\, sharing insights into the UK’s historic houses. Julie holds a Master’s in Country House Studies and leads the Alberta Research Project\, focused on American heiress Alberta Sturges Montagu\, the 9th Countess of Sandwich. She also plays a key role in managing Mapperton House with her husband Luke.\nLuke Montagu (Viscount Hinchingbrooke) is an entrepreneur who now manages his family’s country estate and historic house at Mapperton in West Dorset. After graduating from Columbia University in New York\, Luke founded a series of technology\, education\, and media businesses. In 2003\, he co-founded the Met Film School\, which he led as CEO until 2009. Luke was chair of the trustees for the Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion from 2016-2022\, a charity that develops programs supporting kindness in schools. He is currently chair of trustees of West Dorset Wilding\, a charity that promotes rewilding and nature recovery. He also co-founded Living History Films with his wife Julie. SUMMARY:Wilcox Historical Society Spring Tour of Homes
DESCRIPTION:Join us March 25th\, 2017 for a tour  of the areas most loved antebellum homes. This year’s theme is “A Tour of the River’s Bend” as we open up homes in Canton Bend\, Possum Bend\, Sedan\, and Camden. Tour begins at 10:00 but tickets will be sold beginning at 8:00am at Gee’s Bend Ferry Terminal and 9:00am at Black Belt Treasures. \nThe tour includes the following: DryFork\, Liberty Hall\, White Columns\, Yaupon\, and The Beck-Bryant-Talbot Home. We will also have Canton Bend Church\, Wilcox Female Institute\, and The Dale Masonic Lodge open for the tour.  Quilts created by local artists will be available to view at The Wilcox Female Institute as well.\nLive portrayal of Alabama’s 39th Governor\, Benjamin Meek Miller  will be performed at The Miller-Bonner-Law Office. \nLunches will be available for purchase at The Wilcox Female Institute by Blue Spoon Catering\, and The Masonic Lodge will also be serving BBQ plates.
