  • Location: The Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)6, located in Wilcox County, Alabama. The Main Office/Visitor’s Center is located at: 1001 Earl Hilliard Road, Camden, AL. Some work may be done remotely, and at business locations across Wilcox County, and some travel outside Wilcox County is required.

The Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director reports to the Executive Committee of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and must establish a good working relationship with the Chamber Board of Directors, Chamber Membership, City/County representatives, as well as providing leadership to the Chamber support staff and volunteers in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the organization. The Marketing Director is responsible for providing guidance and leadership in the activities of the Chamber, coordinating the program of work, publicity, and marketing of the Chamber, coordinating the maintenance of the facility, and documentation of the work of the Chamber to ensure that the mission of the Chamber is successful, and its objectives are achieved.

The purpose of the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce is to develop, encourage, promote and protect the commercial, professional, financial and general business interest of the municipalities and the county, to extend and promote the trade and commerce, foster, develop, and protect the industry of the municipalities and the county, seek out and recruit new industry to promote development of industrial parks and to encourage the development of the transportation and communication facilities and various  resources of the Towns and County, and to procure laws and regulations, reflecting the sentiments of business regarding matters affecting its interest. The Chamber will also promote tourism, retirement, and recreation along with promoting the development of the Alabama River recreational potential.

The Marketing Director will identify and coordinate programs and activities which:

  • Advance the general welfare and quality of life in the communities of Wilcox County
  • Promote and advance tourism, economic development, and membership opportunities
  • Encourage growth within the business ecosystem of the area

DUTIES:

Coordinate membership campaigns jointly with Membership Committee and Administrative Director. Personally visit Chamber members on a regular basis for the purpose of building goodwill and gathering information to address member needs.

Work in conjunction with Administrative Director, Board, and Wilcox Works to develop work force development programs that support WACC business member’s needs. Establish and maintain an up-to-date business job listing for active WACC Members.

Coordinate the creation of marketing materials for general distribution (to include press releases, advertisements, and an annual report). Plan and attend events in partnership with the Administrative Director and Board to heighten tourism, revitalization efforts, business retention and expansion programs, and infrastructure development.  

Utilize email, website, and social media (FB, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) as a means of marketing the Chamber and its activities and programs. Maintain an up-to-date website with a current calendar of events – in partnership with the Administrative Director.

Coordinate with the Administrative Director and Student Ambassadors Committee and other volunteer committees in responding to all inquiries for information and assistance in support of WACC events such as Christmas in Camden, the Mark Curl BBQ Cook off, and the Big Buck Contest.

Lead fund raising activities in partnership with the Administrative Director and Board for the Chamber engaging volunteers to assist with obtaining program sponsorships.

Develop, execute, and document Chamber projects, activities, and programs in the Wilcox County area in conjunction with WACC Committees and Administrative Director.

Represent the WACC regionally and nationally, as time and funds allow, promoting tourism opportunities and business growth. 

SHARED DUTIES WITH ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION:

Work cooperatively on joint projects with the Administrative Director as well as the Executive Board, Board Members, and Chamber members as well as volunteers of the Chamber to accomplish established goals.

Assist with developing and maintaining an active volunteer list. Coordinate and assign volunteer activities related to all projects and programs of the Chamber. Recruit additional volunteers as needed.

Attend Committee meetings.

Provide routine communication with the President and Executive Committee of the Chamber, preparing weekly time/activity reports to the Executive Committee as requested, and detailed monthly reports to the Board of Directors.

Coordinate with the Administrative Director a rotating schedule of on call duties regarding the Ferry Terminal to provide support to staff. This would include being available for the following if the staff member was not available: set up, break down, inspection of the terminal after events, and making sure the terminal was securely locked after usage.

Successful candidates will have:

  • An Associates Degree and 1-3 years of related experience (supervisory, event planning & execution, grant writing, public speaking, volunteer management, fundraising) highly preferred.
    • OR – 3 + years of related marketing experience;
    • Chamber and/or economic development experience preferred
  • Exhibits strong proofreading and editing, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proven record of working effectively in an independent environment, demonstrating creative, entrepreneurial approaches to problem solving, enthusiasm, and proficient organizational skills
  • Budget Management and Fundraising experience highly preferred
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite and multiple Social Media outlets – preferred to have strong technology skills , website management, brochure/promotional flier design, slide and video presentations, etc.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours and weekends
  • Preference given to those residing in Wilcox County
